Most of you already know that an early build of Windows 8 was leaked last week which was later declared as a legitimate build by many reliable sources.

Last night my download of Windows 8 got complete and here is my how-to guide on installing Windows 8 on VMware virtual machine. Before starting, note that this is still a beta release of Windows 8 which is based on Windows 7 kernel, so do not use this as your primary OS otherwise you might lose your precious work due to unexpected bugs and crashes.

Minimum Recommended Requirements:

6.1.7850.0.winmain_win8m1.100922-1508_x86fre_client-enterprise_en-us.iso

Download VMware Player or VMware Workstation for your PC.
Microsoft says,Windows 8 Microsoft integrate into Xbox Live

It appears as though Microsoft has revealed that their popular Xbox Live service will be built into “the PC” – something that indicates it could very well be a part of Microsoft’s next operating system, Windows 8. Mike Delman, VP of global marketing at Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business group, was interviewed by The Seattle Times (via WinRumors) at E3 and had this to say:

Live has been successful on the Windows Phone. Live will be built into the PC. It will be the service where you get your entertainment. We were talking about it — you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show’s going to morph into other devices.

When asked directly how the Live service would be part of Windows 8, Delman mentioned how Microsoft wants users to be able to use the service seamlessly between devices, indicating the possibility of a familiar Xbox Live interface in Windows 8 as well as Windows Phone 7. He also mentioned how Xbox Live will be the “passive media service across devices.”
With Windows 8 going the way of the Metro Design Language as first seen in Windows Phone 7, and the Xbox 360 following suit, it is not surprising to see that Microsoft wants to integrate their popular media/gaming service into their next operating system. They have already integrated it into their latest phone OS, so the PC market is next on the list.

Windows 8 Build 7989

Earlier today, two new screenshots were leaked to the internet showcasing Windows 8 Build 7989.

We saw a new wallpaper and a new boot-up screen that indicated a leak of build 7989 was eminent. The wait is finally over as Build 7989 has leaked to the internet.

The build string is: 7989.0.amd64fre.winmain.110421-1825 and is a Milestone 3 build. This build was compiled on April 21st. You can find it on the usual torrent sites and various other FTP file sharing sites.
It has been pretty quiet on the Windows 8 leak front since the last leak of build 7959 over a month ago. In this new build, we get to see a new wallpaper. We also get to see the return of the “Betta fish.” For those wondering what the heck that is, the company introduced the fish in Windows 7 beta. The fish is a placeholder mascot for Microsoft’s beta phase so it is no surprise that Microsoft is using it in Windows 8, as beta 1 approaches. We expect to see the first beta during this years BUILD developers conference in September, or hopefully sooner.

It is unclear whether or not the new Start Screen is available in this build or any of the cool new features we learned about over the past month since the last leak, as we expect those who get their hands on this build to play around and discover the operating system’s hidden features.

As we have seen from multiple screenshots and the Windows 8 introduction at the Computex and D9 conferences, the Windows 8 user interface is heavily influenced by Windows Phone 7′s Metro UI. In fact, we are also expecting to see Xbox Live integration in Windows 8.

Windows 8: Build 8047

As Microsoft continues to keep quiet, we learn more and more about the company’s next operating system via leaked information and screenshots. We talked about Windows 8 Build 8042 last week. Let’s see what the latest build is now and go over an interesting idea for Windows 8′s installation process.

The latest internal build as of this post is 8047.0.110714-1905. This is a Milestone 3 build and was compiled on July 14th.

We all know that in this day and age, many consumers don’t care for a nicely packaged software box containing a CD/DVD. Instead, people want to download their software quickly and easily from an app store. Here is what I propose; available from an ‘App store’ would be the Windows Setup executable that simply validates the install location, key, and finally streams the setup files directly from a web service. Finally, why stop there, it should allow users to save the downloaded files for offline installation, or creating their own install media.

When you think about it, being able to download and install Windows 8 directly from the web is the most logical idea. It allows for more control by the user and an easier and cheaper distribution method. Plus, the consumer’s license won’t be tied to a volatile and the prone-to-error DVD media. Instead, just fire up the web installer for the latest most up to date bits. The desktop PC is over 30 years old; this seems like a basic function for the era of the online operating system.

Microsoft, go ahead and take note. Linux already does this. Even OSX Lion’s update is web-based only. It’s time Windows entered the modern era and have a web-based installer as an option for those who desire it. It only makes sense.

We already know that Windows 8 will feature a new user interface for tablet devices. This has been coming along nicely. As different branches with different feature sets are being worked on, the updated code will eventually be merged into one winmain build.

We are still expecting a public beta to be released during the BUILD developer conference, which takes place September 13th to 16th.

As a reminder, 8047 is an internal build. It has not leaked. If you happen to see 8047 or even 8042 on torrents or “private ftps”, dont waste your time. You are most likely downloading a malicious file. The latest leaked build as of this post is still 7989.

To catch up on all Windows 8 news, you can follow us on our Windows 8 page.

Microsoft, which recently re-branded its annual developers conference to match the company’s new focus towards a “new generation of modern hardware and software development,” has apparently sold out that conference. The Build developer conference, which takes place in one month, is expected to showcase Windows 8.

According to the Build website, online registration has sold out. This is somewhat surprising, as Mary Jo Foley reports that many developers had a hard time convincing their bosses to let them attend this event, due to Microsoft keeping tight-lipped about the event and not really offering too much detail about what will take place.

Microsoft describes its event as: “Hear how the (Windows) UI was designed to work seamlessly with a diversity of devices and form factors. Go behind the scenes and learn all about the new app model that allows you to create powerful new apps. All while retaining the ability to use your existing apps. Web-connected and web-powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript have access to the power of the PC. Touch-optimized browsing, with the full power of hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 10 transforms your experiences with the web. BUILD is the first place to dive deep into the future of Windows.”
We are expecting to see the first public beta build of Windows 8 during the Build conference.
BUILD takes place Tuesday September 13 to 16 in Anaheim, California.

With Microsoft’s Build Developer Conference rapidly approaching, Microsoft has been making progress on Windows 8 to ensure the public build it plans on showcasing is something worth talking about. Lets see what the internal build number is as of this post and talk a little bit about the upcoming Build conference.

The latest internal compiled build as of this post is 8063.0.110804-1922. This is a Milestone 3 build and was compiled on August 4th. With work being done on a constant basis, Microsoft is looking forward to ensuring the PDC/Build Developer Conference build of Windows 8 is something worth talking about.

Microsoft’s Build developer conference, which was a re-brand of the annual PDC event, has sold out recently, which is not surprising. Microsoft re-branded the conference to match the company’s new focus towards a “new generation of modern hardware and software development.” The Build developer conference, which takes place Tuesday September 13 to 16 in Anaheim, California, is expected to showcase first public build of Windows 8. It is still unknown if the build will be a Beta or a Community Tech Preview (CTP).

Tammi Reller, Microsoft’s Chief Financial Officer for the Windows/Windows Live Division, had mentioned a while back that the Build conference will be a big deal in the feature demonstration of Windows 8.

“Build is a new event that will show modern hardware and software developers how to take advantage of the future of Windows. It is the first place to dive deep into the future of Windows. Hardware partners and developers who attend Build will be able to work hands-on with Windows 8 touch-centric user interface and learn how to create apps that leverage the power and the flexibility of Windows. We also welcome corporate developers to Build to really begin to learn, to plan for how they will build Web-connected and Web-powered apps for their enterprise,” Reller stated.

In case you missed it, a few weeks ago we talked about build 8047 and about a suggestion for Microsoft to enter the modern era and have a web-based installer for Windows 8 as an option for those who desire it.
Also as a reminder, the latest leaked build of Windows 8 is still 7989. If you see any build greater than 7989 out there, it is a fake and likely a malicious file.

Anyone excited about the Build Developers Conference? It’s right around the corner! If you are unable to attend, Microsoft will make available the keynotes online. Build begins on September 13th.

Copy/paste UI

Recently, Microsoft released a new BUILD video on USB 3.0 support which showed us how fast the new USB devices can really be. Today, the company have released another BUILD video, this time demoing the new copy and paste user interface that is currently in the works on Windows 8.

In Windows 7, copying and pasting can be a rather painful process, with the operating system bringing up many progress boxes, it can make a rather un-friendly user experience. Now in Windows 8, rather than having many different progress boxes, they have all been combined into one user-friendly Window.

While making the UI as friendly as possible for users, Microsoft have also been hard at work on making it as fast as possible, the company just recently demoed the new USB 3.0 support in the operating system which improves copy and paste speeds by 10 times. Now in Windows 8, you can pause and stop certain copy/paste processes without the need to cancel them altogether.

Microsoft is also making improvements to file conflicts (files with the same name) in Windows 8, now you can individually select which files you want to keep and replace within the same window, which is a big improvement to what Windows 7 currently offers.

Microsoft is hard at work on Windows 8, with rumours of a public beta to be available at Microsoft’s BUILD conference, it doesn’t look like it’ll be long before users get their hands on what Microsoft have been busy with. At this time, Microsoft have been focusing on speed, they want Windows 8 to be the fastest operating system that the company have ever released.
